Who writes this
Cedric — Editor and operator
One person decides what goes on these pages. Here is what that involves, and what it does not.
What I do
- I decide which categories get a page, and which vendors go in it.
- I read the vendor pricing pages myself when automated reading is refused, and mark those readings as read by hand — they expire after 30 days.
- I decide what counts as a criterion, and how it is weighted for each kind of buyer. The ranking is then produced by the model, not by me: I can show you the steps that produced it.
- I decide what the site refuses to publish. Scores out of ten, imported ratings and promotional prices as comparison prices are refused because of decisions written down, not because of taste.
What I do not claim
- I have not used most of these tools in production. Where a page tells you what a tool is like day to day, it is reporting what the vendor documents or what buyers report — never an experience I am claiming to have had.
- I do not accept payment for placement, and no vendor sees a page before it is published.
How to check any of it
Every figure links to the page it came from, and we keep the text of that page as we read it. How we check this explains the whole chain, including how to verify a stored reading yourself.
If something here is wrong, tell me — a correction with a source gets made the same day.
