ToolAdvisor

Choose software by fit, cost, and trade-off.

Start with the buying situation: team size, budget, migration risk, and the work the tool must make easier. ToolAdvisor gives the default choice, the cases where that choice changes, and the evidence behind the recommendation.

CHOOSE BY SITUATION
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Choose software by fit, cost, and tradeoff

For teams of up to 4 full members: Trello. Its Standard plan at $6 per user billed monthly is the lowest per-seat rate we read, and a team this small beats every flat plan on total price.

CRM
Pipeline, sales handoff, and reporting

For most small businesses: Less Annoying CRM. One price per user, everything included, nothing held back for a higher tier — and no pricing page to decode.

E-COMMERCE PLATFORM
Choose software by fit, cost, and tradeoff

If price alone decides it: Big Cartel. At $15/month it is the cheapest of the five platforms we read a plan fee for, and it is the only one with no published yearly-sales ceiling — the price we quote holds whether you sell $10,000 or $2,500,000 a year, on the pages we read.

SEO
Rank tracking, audits, and content growth

For most small businesses: Ahrefs. It comes out ahead of Semrush. Our criteria barely separate these two. What does, and we do not measure it: Link index depth. We do not measure index size — nobody can from outside — so it does not move our ranking. It is nevertheless the reason most people choose this one over the other. Market and advertising data: traffic estimates for sites you do not own, and what competitors spend on paid search. We do not measure either, so neither moves our ranking — but if that is what you are buying, this is the one that has it.

ACCOUNTING
Choose software by fit, cost, and tradeoff

For most small businesses: Wave. It comes out ahead of Zoho Books.

EMAIL MARKETING
Campaigns, lifecycle, and deliverability

If you keep a list and write to it now and then — about a send a week: Mailjet Essential. At this list size its sending tier undercuts every contact-priced plan we read.

Linked comparison pages

Method

Every figure links to the page it came from

Not a footnote — the number itself. Click it and you land on the vendor's own pricing page, with the date we read it next to it.

We keep the page as we read it

A link shows today's price. We store the text we actually read, under its SHA-256 hash, so a figure stays checkable months later — by you, not just by us.

No score out of ten, and no rating borrowed from anywhere

A number without a published method is an opinion wearing a number. We publish which tool wins for which buyer, by how much, and which criteria produced it.
